Recipes and Mothers Day

Here's another recipe courtesy of Michelle:

Grandma Feyen’s Rolls

*In a small bowl mix:
1 ½ pkg yeast
2tsp. sugar
¼ cup warm/hot water

*In a different bowl beat 1 egg

*In a large bowl mix:
3 cups scalded milk
¾ cups sugar
¾ cups shortening
3 tsp. salt
Yeast and egg mixture
8 cups flour

*Let it rise 2 ½ hours – knead

*Let it rise another 2 ½ hours – form your rolls

*Let it rise ½ to 1 hour

Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes

I don’t know if she still does but she used to take a stick of butter and rub it on the top of each hot roll.

**For cinnamon rolls:
Roll out dough after 2nd rising and spread with butter and brown sugar. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up and cut. Let rise ½ to 1 hour. Bake at 350 for 12 – 15 minutes. Glaze.

Also, I got an e-mail from Aunt Linda regarding a Mother's Day get together at Harv and Colleens. It's @ 1:00 and if you go bring a cold dish and a hot dish to pass. E-mail Aunt Linda for more details.

Finally, as many of you know we are giving Grandma the gift of time. Every family is assigned a week where you do something with Grandma. Hopefully somehow I'll be posting the schedule on here. If you have any questions, post them in the comment box and I'll do my best to answer them.

I think that's about it for now. The May birthday list will be up soon!

Break Out the Family Records

I think everyone would agree that this blog has allowed us to connect and get to know everyone in the family a lot better than we knew each other before. Blogging allows all of us to stay connected beyond Thanksgiving and Christmas.

With such a large family, I've also been in contact with people I haven't seen since I was five.

Earlier this week I was on this blog. Occasionly I'll look back at old posts, and read old comments just for the fun of it. One post specifically caught my attention: Lisa's Classroom. It caught my attention because there was a comment there that I hadn't seen before. The author is anonymous but here's what they said:

Hi Feyen's!

We are Feyen's as well! Our great grandfather and mother were Nicholas and Katherine from Luxembourg (and Feyen Germany just north of the border) They came in the mid to late 1800's and settled in Wisconsin and then Minnesota. Very Catholic and all blue eyed and blond. There are definately triplets and twins in the family....any relation? cgdaniel@comcast.net

Someone help me out! I haven't responded yet, because I simply don't know if we're related.

But seriously, how awesome! The internet does amazing things sometimes, and how great would it be if we were able to connect with these long lost "possible" relatives!

If this "anonymous" person is reading this blog update as well... thank-you for commenting, this has obviously grabed my curiosity! This would be so cool if we are related.

we're big but how big?

Edited to add:

Well Matt and Nick are having the 99th baby in mid-June, obviously I didn't hear about that for awhile. I guess that just leaves the 100th!

So Michelle says 98. But I still wanna know who is going to have the 99th and 100th???

With the recent birth of Grace Fredricks, nobody is pregnant. There are almost 100 family members on the Feyen side, and I think it's probably quite rare when there is a time that nobody is pregnant. Does anyone know how many people we have now that Grace was born? Is she number 97, 98, etc..? I know Scott and Lisa wanted to have the 100th!

Give your thoughts in the comment box... how many of us are there now?

Be Praying

Here's an update from Lisa Fredricks. Be sure to keep Lydia in your prayers! I'll post more details as I get them.

This afternoon Lydia (Jeff and Charity's) 6 year old daughter suffered from a siezure. They brought her to Holland Hospital and eventually she was transported to de Vos Childrens Hospital. The details right now are a little sketchy but I do know that her condition has improved and she and her family could really use our prayers. There are more tests scheduled for tomorrow so hopefully we will hear more then.

Thanks!

Family Slideshow

Earlier this morning Alison e-mailed me this brilliant idea! Here's her e-mail:

Hello Feyen Family!

Well, Todd's Grandpa passed away 2 weeks ago and my sister in law and I put together a video to be shown at the visitation. There was something about viewing those pictures set to music that told such a great story. SO, I've been convicted to do a video for Grandma Feyen. Although the disc of pictures that I put together was great for those of us who know our way around a computer, Grandma can't view them because she doesn't have a computer. Anyway, I need your help. I am wondering if you have any pictures, new or old that you'd like included in the video. I'm going to try work on this really hard in the next few weeks (I know...not much notice), but if you can't get them to me by then, I can always add it later. Please include a note with who is in the picture with Grandma, or what Grandma was doing, etc. For some of the pictures I'm going to include captions so that we all know the stories.

I'm really hoping to capture who Grandma and Grandpa were so their story can be passed down to the next generation.

Alison

I'm thrilled that Alison is doing this and I know that it will turn out great! Grandma is going to love this!

Please contact Alison with any questions or just leave them in the comment box below!
